“I don’t really believe in people anymore. I just ended a really long relationship — nearly eight years of my life — that, in a way, seem pretty much wasted…
He had been spending a lot of time working with someone new, thinking of someone new. My grandfather, who had helped raise me, had just passed away. I remember returning from a week spent with my family for the funeral and straight out asking him, after much frustration, if he had slept with her. ‘No,’ he adamantly argued, ‘I thought we trusted each other, I don’t know how you could ask me that!’ Of course I believed him, and felt like an ass for even asking the question. It didn’t take long for the other woman, out of some sort of respect for female solidarity, to tell me the truth.  Being cheated on in such a way — especially when I was most in need of love and comfort — was the slap in the face I needed to finally realize it would never work, and there was no way I could be in a relationship with him any longer.
Suddenly, in less than two weeks, I had lost the two most important men in my life. Needless to say, it has really fucked with my head…”
